    Just a theory, but have you ever thought the lagoon is D2O (heavy water) instead of H20 (the water we drink) the hydrogen is heavier than normal hydrogen and becomes deuterium or D²O. In large enough concentrations it can be dangerous to living organisms.

    I mean, they have an ocean… somehow, so drowning is a possibility by that logic. My guess would be something like different level of density, oxygen and salt in the water layer, somehow acting as a new underwater ocean and somehow not mixing together, from the bikini bottom point of view it could look like an ocean or something. A fish trying to swim in that and breathe would be like a freshwater fish in the ocean, effectively drowning them as they can’t breathe enough air from the water and other reasons like the salt.

    But actually theres a real place called the goo lagoon that’s filled with saltwater so heavy and thick no fish can breathe it so they basically drown
