As a boss’ kid I feel a little cheated.

I don’t have a corner office. I don’t get to screw off and take it easy while making wildly more than I should be.

Instead, I get paid the same as everyone else while having more responsibility with the added bonus of catching hell for everything that goes wrong because the boss knows he can bitch me out as much as he wants while not being able to do that with the other employees. Work needs to get done on a Saturday? Guess who is getting called in. Other employees don’t show up for whatever reason? Guess who gets to just not take vacation days and has to cover their work.

Oh, and I also get to deal with the “no good boss’ son” jokes from my coworkers. That definitely never gets old.

So to all the other boss’ kids who have slave-driver, old school hardcases for a boss like I do, I feel ya.

Okay, so let’s just talk about this for a second.

You like your job right?

You want to keep your job or progress right?

You want your industry leader to be… basically the same person if the boss dies whilst business is successful right?

You’re working for a family business right?

Now, we got all that squared away…

Who inherits the business when the owner dies?

Is it you? Or is it the person in their will who is likely to be their kid.

Do you want an incompetent person who knows nothing about the business? Or somebody who worked across the desk from you.

Put yourself in the bosses shoes, he doesn’t want to leave his kid with nothing, he wants his son to take over his business. That’s fine.

If you have a problem with somebody wanting their kids to follow in their footsteps and know the business so they are successful and keep all the employees in a job.
